They are super crunchy, tasty and delicious, but only take 10 minutes to prepare. I’m excited to show you how to cook chicken drumsticks using my favorite method, all my tips and tricks for cooking chicken legs, what to serve them with, and more. For medium-sized drumsticks, cooking time for chicken legs is 35 to 45 minutes at 425 degrees, turning halfway through. Exact times vary slightly due to oven temperature as well as drumstick size.

I have a few simple, but important tips to make sure your crispy baked chicken legs turn out great every time:

Yes, you can freeze raw chicken for 9-12 months. Place them in a single layer on a greaseproof paper pan and place in the freezer. Once firm, you can transfer it to a freezer bag for tighter storage.

Reheat leftover chicken legs to 350°F in the oven or deep fryer for best results. The microwave works well, but the skin doesn’t get crispy.

To reheat frozen sticks, let them freeze overnight (or a few hours) in the refrigerator and reheat in a 350°F oven for best results.

Chicken – We use skinned chicken drumsticks here. The skin is crispy and tasty and helps to preserve the beauty and freshness of the inside.

How To Cook Drumsticks On The Stove

Seasoning – You will need a mixture of smoked paprika (affiliate link), garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, salt and pepper.

Oil – While we prefer to use avocado oil (affiliate link) for high temperature cooking it has more smoke than olive oil. Many of our readers have used olive oil and are also happy with the results.

Add your drumsticks to a plastic bag or large bowl and spray with oil. Sprinkle on the seasoning, seal the bag, and squish the ingredients around to cover the chicken.

We cook this chicken leg at 425 degrees. If our oven isn’t nice and hot, the chicken skin won’t be crispy and no one wants rubbery chicken skin!

The meat should reach 165 degrees in about 45 minutes and then your chicken legs are ready to eat!

We like to cook chicken drumsticks at 425 degrees. This allows the chicken skin to crisp up and the insides to stay nice and moist. That may seem like a lot of heat, especially compared to some of the other recipes, but we have thousands of 5-star reviews on this recipe that speak for themselves!

Everyone needs chicken recipes and this chicken pot pie recipe is one of the easiest and best for home cooks. With just 10 minutes of prep and easy baking, you’ll have an inexpensive meal that kids and adults alike will love once it’s baked in the oven.

It takes about 35 minutes to cook a chicken leg in the oven at 425 degrees with an internal temperature of 185 degrees. Variables: Chicken leg size and oven temperature.

The best final internal temperature for cooked chicken legs is 185 degrees or higher, when the connective tissue has dissolved and the meat is moist and tender.

Connective tissue begins to melt at 175 degrees. At 185 degrees, you get moist and tender results. America’s Test Kitchen goes a step further and suggests 190 degrees to 195 degrees as the target internal temperature range for both thighs and drumsticks. American Test Kitchen – For perfectly tender chicken thighs, overcook them.

Easy Chicken Drumsticks Recipe

Many people like to cook chicken legs to 165 degrees, which is the FDA’s minimum safe internal chicken temperature, but the connective tissue will become tough and tough.

A lot of fat and liquid are released while cooking chicken drumsticks. You can cook drumsticks without a rack, but you’ll be happier with a rack. Cooking will be more uniform, faster and easier to clean.

You can if you want. Without oil, the skin will be dry and crunchy, but with a little olive oil or cooking spray, it will be thicker and less crunchy.

The best oven temperature for baking chicken legs is 400 to 425 degrees. It crisps the skin and reaches 185 degrees or higher when the connective tissue melts and the meat becomes moist and tender.

Crispy Juicy Baked Chicken Legs (drumsticks)

Lower temperatures, such as 350 degrees or 375 degrees, can be used, but the skin will not crisp, cooking time will increase, and the meat may dry out.

It is stored in a closed container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Also, they should freeze for 3-4 months. Defrost and heat first, then heat in the oven.

Season with salt and pepper as needed. Use other seasonings if desired. Here I use all purpose seasoning – 7:2:1 and 7:2:2.

Place the leg on the prepared sheet pan with the thick part of the chicken leg facing out. Cover the tray with aluminum foil to clean. A rack elevates the chicken so all sides cook evenly. You can cook without a rack but better with one. Of course, heavy PAM zinc spray
