Imagine my horror one day when I found a popular vegan chili recipe that included dates among other things!

So to keep things right and true in the world, allow me to introduce you to what Texas-style vegan chili should be.

I know…how do you get Texas chili without the meat, you’re asking? Believe it or not, this recipe holds up just fine without anything.

The magical blend of spices and chilies gives chilies the unique flavor we know and love.

Insist on something chewy for your chili, and it’s a matter of finding a suitable substitute.

There are many types of meat, but remember that this pepper will do well on its own.

Once your vegetables are nice and translucent, add your meat substitute, heat through and mix well.

The ingredients for this chili recipe are very simple, but the flavor is second to none. Simple ingredients start with aromatics like onions, carrots, celery, and garlic, and they’re incredibly flavorful.

Sides To Serve With Chili

I add traditional chili seasoning and smoked paprika for a more flavorful, smoky flavor. Canned beans and tomatoes contribute delicious plant-based protein and weight.

Mixing in a small amount of chile makes it look and taste like chili that’s been cooking all morning, but it only takes about 30 minutes to simmer. Here’s a little trick I learned from my lentil soup, another cozy option for colder days.

Finish the chili with a splash of sherry vinegar (or lime juice) and fresh cilantro to give it a vibrant, fresh flavor. The vinegar offers some acidity and complexity that makes all the difference.

This chili is dairy-free and dairy-free. You can keep it that way by opting for vegan toppings like sliced ​​avocado and tortilla chips.

Stove Setup: Place everything (except the corn and beans) in a large pot. Bring to a boil, cover and cook for 10 minutes or until the quinoa is cooked through. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Stir in the corn and beans, then serve!

Slow Cooker Instructions: Place everything (minus the corn and beans) in the slow cooker, cover, and cook on LOW for 8 hours or HIGH for 4 hours. Stir in the corn and beans, then serve!
