Homemade Raw Cat Food Recipes

Homemade Raw Cat Food Recipes – About 7 years ago, I decided to create my own raw cat food and began researching raw cat food recipes. Until then, I feed a high-quality grain-free dry cat food with canned food. At about $2.50 per can, it cost me a small fortune. Also, my cats still had hair and one cat, Kirby, still had chronic stomach issues. After much research, I decided to switch all my cats to raw cat food because of the health benefits. Cats fed a raw diet have a strong immune system, are resistant to infections and parasites, show no signs of allergies and have a healthy gut.

When I transitioned my cats to a homemade raw diet, I was worried about getting them sick because the food wasn’t prepared. After a lot of research, I found that cats’ digestive systems are shorter than ours, which means that food doesn’t stay in their intestines for long. In other words, cats do not get food poisoning from eating raw meat. Think: When a tiger said, “I can’t eat this raw gazelle, I have to cook it.” never Feral cats eat mice, chickens and rabbits raw because that’s what they eat, not commercial dry cat food or prepared food. Cats are not human and their bodies are very different from ours.

A study that I found very influential was done by Dr. Pottinger from 1932 to 1942. Dr. Pottinger was conducting research on adrenal hormones in respiratory problems and used cats for laboratory testing. By conducting this study, he found that cats fed a raw diet were healthier and survived surgery more often than cats fed a high-quality, prepared diet. Over the course of 10 years, Dr. Pottinger evaluated the diets of 900 cats over a 10-year period and the results were the same: raw food is better for cats than cooked food.

One of the books that helped me learn more about cats and what to feed them is called “Raising Cats Naturally” by Michelle T. Barnard. It does a great job of explaining the nutritional needs of cats and has raw recipes. I highly recommend picking up a copy. My raw cat food recipe is adapted from her book.

Trying to get four cats with very different preferences was a challenge. One of my cats, Chiu Chou, a 13-year-old female tuxedo, never refused to eat wet food. The look he gives me says, “Why are you giving me this garbage?” The other 2 cats ate wet food but they were all very picky about what they would eat. I had only one cat, Heshbron, who was 1 year old at the time and ate everything. I knew I had a challenge on my hands.

But with a little time and patience, all my cats switched to raw cat food. When I’m in a rush and don’t have time to “cook” I’ll feed them shredded raw chicken or use Stella & Chewy Raw Dehydrated Cat Food.

If you make it at home, getting a good meat grinder is a good investment. After evaluating several meat grinders, I settled on Cabela’s 3/4 hp meat grinder at $399, which was my second most expensive purchase after my Vitamax. Cabela’s 3/4 hp meat grinder had great reviews and was heavy enough to grind chicken bones to make raw cat food. At 50 lbs, it’s definitely heavy. I also picked up a Cusibox digital food scale for $13 to weigh ingredients. You will also need two large bowls and some small glass bowls to put the cat food in. I recommend using a soup ladle or large ladle to transfer the mixture to glass containers.

If you want to make raw cat food without a meat grinder, I recommend using the Ninja because it has larger blades than other blenders. Get Ninja as in the link. Don’t use the small ninja fit. You need a bigger blade. I tried it with Ninja in the link and it works great.

If you want to make raw cat food in Ninja, you should use Cornish chicken. Do not use chicken thighs or wings as the blenders are not powerful enough to handle the load. If you want to use chicken, be sure to get a good ground meat.

Wash the Cornish hens (usually frozen). Using heavy duty kitchen shears or a knife, cut the Cornish chicken into 2-3 inch pieces. This makes the blender easier to handle.

Blend for 3-5 seconds. Pour the mixed cat food into another large bowl. Repeat and add additional powder to the mixture. Remove the powder from the capsule before mixing.

When done, take a spatula and mix the mixture well by hand to make sure the ingredients are distributed throughout the bowl.

Take a large container and pour the raw cat food into small glass containers and freeze. Be sure to use small containers to serve 1 or 2 days. This keeps the cat’s food fresh.

Put the cat food in the freezer and leave it in the fridge to defrost the night before.

Cut the chicken into small pieces to feed through a meat grinder. Divide the toppings and mix by hand, making sure to spread evenly. Mix the supplements well to ensure they are evenly distributed throughout the cat’s food.

One thing you will notice is the difference in the litter box. Instead of pooping a lot, you’ll notice a reduction in the amount of litter your cat produces. You’ll also notice that the poop will look like a roll of poop, which looks like healthy cat litter. You will also notice a lot of urination, which is normal.

Homemade cat food has given my older cats the energy levels of spunk newsletters. My 11-year-old cat, Kirby, was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome, and except for loose stools, he has healthy stools. If I can cook raw homemade cat food in a van on the road, I’m sure you can do it in your kitchen. =)

*Pottenger, Francis., Pottenger’s Cats: A Study in Nutrition, 2nd Ed., Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation, Inc.: La Mesa, CA 1995, p.1 When we first got our cat, our mother gave it to us. Dry food is bad for cats because it is very different from their natural diet. I and I both think canned food is gross, so after warning my mom, based on her vet’s advice, I did some research on the best cat diets. It turns out that raw meat, which all feral cats eat, is perfect. We fed the leftover packets of Kitty Chow to the chickens and made this delicious recipe for Kitty.

We bought a high powered blender, which I wanted anyway, with two blender baskets: one for the cat and one for our dogs. We bought all organic chicken and cut it into pieces, mixed it with enough water, some eggs, including pellets, some garlic cloves (which I’ve since read are bad for cats), feed, yeast, and some spirulina (it’s the blue/green one in the picture). Chicken meat including bones and skin.

You have to make sure there are no bone fragments when they are young or they will break! They break bones when they grow.

This is how I made his food for almost a year. It’s hard work, but I will make large batches and freeze portions in recycled peanut butter containers. Eventually we started buying chicken thighs because it was easier than tearing up a whole raw chicken. I’ll also add a random vegetable to each batch, sometimes a carrot, sometimes a zucchini, carrot green, or mushroom stem. Our cat is an outdoor cat and eats all kinds of things from our yard, from grass to “chickpeas” (they grow all over our woods!) I’ve read that feral cats eat small amounts of grains and Get Veggies. Their natural diet consists of consuming the stomach contents of their prey. However, processed commercial pet foods and soy-based foods cause obesity, cavities and diabetes!

Our cat, now fully grown, thrives on this diet. We have stopped mixing his food since last month because he can break his bones on his own. No more cat food recipes! I’m chilling now
