Dog food at home is an easy way to spoil your dog and it’s fun to do. All you need is a stove and a large pot to prepare delicious and healthy food for your dog.

Recipe For Homemade Dog Food

This recipe is a recipe for making my own instant dog. I know not everyone has an Instant Pot (although I highly recommend it to make life easier 😉 ) so I decided to make some recipes that everyone can use.

Cheap Homemade Dog Food Recipe That’s Nutritionally Balanced

These recipes came about because the commercial dog food options available to us didn’t quite match what we were looking for in a perfect diet, and we wanted something that didn’t come with unnecessary additions. Dog food at home is very good for us.

This recipe is very similar to what you get at the grocery store from Fresh Pet (I think Costco sells them in big tubes), but you can control what goes in and do it yourself.

The best thing about making your own dog food is that you can think about your dog’s needs and any food allergies he may have. Instead of reading a million labels, you control what goes into your food. If your dog is a picky eater, you can also feed him things you know he likes:

Dogs are like humans in that there is no “one size fits all” solution to nutrition – it’s called biology. All dogs are omnivores and eat both animals and plants—unlike cats, which are carnivores—but the types of animals and plants that each dog feeds on differ from dog to dog.

Healthier Homemade Dog Food — Chouquette Kitchen

Some dogs are allergic to chicken, some to salmon. Some people can only eat sheep. Find what works best for your dog, and they will thrive! Like people – I’ll end up in the hospital if I eat a poblano pepper, I’ll have a best friend die from eating peanuts. The corpses are wild.

Here’s how to make dog food at home on the stove. (To make homemade dog food in your Instant Pot, you can check out my Instant Pot Dog Food recipe.)

First, heat a medium or large pot on the stove and cook your ground beef. (Picture 1 – 3) Drain the oil and leave it after cooling. (Figure 4)

Next, add your dried beef to your pot and add your coconut oil and frozen vegetables. (I add a bag or two, aiming for 20-24 ounces of frozen vegetables. If using a 12-ounce bag, use two. If using a 16-ounce bag, use one and a half ounces.) (Figure 5) Cloud . mix and melt the coconut oil.

Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer to cook off most of the water and soften the oats. (Figure 8)

Remove the pot from the heat and allow your dog food to cool before serving or storing. You can divide the meal according to your needs – I usually cut it in half and freeze one batch. When I eat, I use a measuring cup, so I don’t have time to divide it into portions.

I like a mixed vegetable mix from Walmart or Aldi that has beans, green beans, carrots and corn. (Don’t use anything with onions!) The last mix I bought was five beans. You can also use a bag of carrots mixed with a bag of chopped green beans. (You know your dog, so feed them what they like – this is a great recipe to use whatever you can get at the store/whatever is available!)

Really! Eggs contain many nutrients that are great for dogs. Never go overboard. We often use what’s in season or what’s in the fridge. We use a variety of berries – strawberries or blueberries are best. Don’t use grapes because they are too bad for dogs. You can add fruit before or after cooking, just be careful not to let your dog’s food turn purple when cooking greens 😉

The easiest grains to use in your pet dog’s diet are oats and leftover cooked rice. (Brown or white will work—do not use fried rice or onions!) If your dog has a grain allergy, you can substitute mashed potatoes.

We like to add some leftovers of everything: cooked duck (we don’t use it as a great source of protein because it’s low in fat, greasy and heavy), roast beef, pot roast , grilled chicken.. even pork. Sometimes we add eggs, beef broth, duck broth, or wild game (he has beef and some tough cuts that we don’t like!)

We supplement his diet with raw bones (the fat inside is frozen) and raw pork feet. He loves them with all their abominations and weaknesses.

The most important thing is to be sure to discuss the amount of food and ingredients with your doctor before switching to a new diet.

Homemade Dog Food In The Instant Pot

Here’s our own experience: I feed Mellie 1 cup twice a day (with a small bowl of homemade yogurt on top) and she averages 40 to 45 pounds. He really loves it! (On dry kibble, he eats 1 cup twice a day, so you can start with the same amount and see if you need to increase or decrease after a few days.)

If Mellie had a particularly active day, running around like a border collie and chasing meadows and trees, or tending to the fence, I’d give her extra money at lunch. Our doctor likes it if we vary the types of food, vegetables and fruits – it gives him different nutrients, like a dog in the forest.

If your dog has spent his entire life on food, make this transition slowly as diarrhea can be fatal. For dogs that eat a lot of table salad, you can go by replacing a quarter of their food with this food for 3-4 days, then switch to half and half for 3-4 day, then ¾ new food + ¼ old. food. for 3-4 days, 100% fresh food!

If your dog is very sensitive, I would do it one to two weeks at a time. Mellie has no problem with these transitions because I’m always adding new surprises to her homemade food, but if your dog has been eating the same food her whole life, you need to slow down.

I leave Mellie’s food hot and cold – she’s not a big fan. I often top it with 1/4 cup yogurt (no sweetener). Yogurt is not only necessary, but it provides probiotics and helps with healthy digestion. I want to make my own Greek yogurt in a pot.

To add calcium to this meal, I add bone meal or broccoli stalks as part of the vegetables. You can store it in the refrigerator and use it when needed. You can also add a tin of sardines filled with water. Fair warning, the broccoli stems and sardines make this dish smell…

This recipe is very easy. You can use beef, turkey, fresh fish or chicken. You can also use chopped chicken breast. The only thing I do not recommend is canned fish, because it is very fatty and too much can cause pancreatitis.

I alternate between oats and rice, and the vegetables and fruits vary depending on what we have and what’s in season. Mellie is a former mutt and will eat almost anything, especially if you cook everything together, so we feed her all kinds of delicious vegetables!

I’m a bride, food blogger, health coach, and mom with a local hot dog. I love putting a new spin on old family recipes, and I try to make many meals with the Instant Pot.recipe. It is made with a combination of healthy and simple ingredients that provide a nutritional balance of carbohydrates, fat, fiber and protein.
