Now it’s time to set our connection string. For this example, I will connect to a local instance of SQL Server, named “SQL2K19”, using a trusted connection, that is, Windows authentication. Also, the first database to connect to is “SampleDB”.
Therefore, I will set my connection string using the SQL Server ODBC driver as below:
The next step after we establish our connection to the database is to create a cursor object and run the SQL query.
In this example, I call the SQL Server global system variable @@VERSION which returns version information about the SQL Server instance.

Finally, close the cursor and the connection, so as not to leave an open connection to your SQL Server database.
